Hi Tina, this is Susan, one of Lisa's "Mets" friends. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this story. Even though I grew up closer to the same time Lisa did, I remember the insurance man coming to the house, collecting the premiums, sitting at the kitchen table, having a cup of coffee. Your Dad reminds me a great deal of my own. He always dreamed of going to college, and becoming a major league baseball player. Instead, he had to quit school in his junior year to support his widowed mother. He took a job as a city firefighter to support his 7 children, and like your Dad, worked hard. Despite meager times, books were very important in our house, and Dad had me reading at age 4, and took me for my very first library card. Next to my gratitude for him instilling my love of baseball, I think I most appreciate him encouraging me to read. How I loved your story!!! Can't wait to hear more.
